The coffins of the Dominican Crypt from Vác
Priceless cultural treasures were unearthed in 1994-1995 in Vác, when during the restoration work of the Dominican Church the workers stumbled upon a few steps leading to a long forgotten crypt. In the crypt they found 262, more or less intact coffins dating back to the mid-18th, early 19th centuries containing the remains of women, men, children, craftsmen, officers, priests, monks and functionaries from Vác. The collection of artifacts became World famous due to the „mummies from Vác”.
The exhibition, which includes several original mummies and unique audiovisual techniques, tells the story of the unprecedented discovery of the Vác ensemble, revealing the personal histories of the mummies and the results of their examination using scientific methods.
